…is impossible. So don’t try it. Instead cling to the Perfect Father. Here’s a “renovative” thought. If you want to be a better parent, spend more time with Jesus. Pray and empty your soul at the foot of the cross. Repent openly. Show more grace; at least as much grace as you require. Read the Bible and let the very words of God refine you as a human created in the image of God and as a disciple of the one risen Nazarene. Make time to heart connect with your spouse and your children. Forgive quickly and ask for forgiveness even more quickly. Laugh together. Cry together. Struggle together. Celebrate together. Dance more and fight less.
But whatever you do, don’t try to be perfect. It’s an impossible task and it leads to worry, regret, wounding, and sometimes depression. So Mom, Dad, let yourself off the hamster wheel of perfection and embrace the gospel. Let it permeate your parenting. You will find sweet relief from the burden of parenting for perfection.
