The war in Israel and Gaza is on all of our minds. As we continue to see the atrocities of terrorism and war I’m grieved deeply. We must be fervent in prayer. Here are a few ways we can pray:
Pray for Israelis and Palestinian people suffering deep grief and loss in this terrible moment in history.
Pray for a just end to war in the region.
Pray other countries in the region and in the world (Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Iran, Russia, China, etc) would not engage in the war.
Pray for evangelical Christians in Israel and Palestinian territory including Gaza who are ambassadors for Christ at the epicenter in this moment.
Pray that Jesus would miraculously speak to many (Israelis, Palestinians, Jews and Muslims) in the midst of the chaos. I’m asking for Jesus to speak in dreams and visions and in other ways for people in desperate need of spiritual transformation and hope.
Pray for peacemakers to be raised up. This may seem like an odd prayer for the moment. There are many Christians in the world in discourse at every level about all of this including me. I believe it is a gift to have to have friendships and family on all sides of this atrocity. It’s also a burden and responsibility. Peacemaking and peace keeping are very different. This isn’t a prayer for God to raise people up that would say, “Cant we just all get along?” Instead this is a cry for God to raise up people who can do the hard work of making peace in His name. After all, as disciples of Jesus we are disciples of the Prince of Peace. I constantly think about this teaching of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount.
“Blessed are the peace makers for they shall be called sons of God.” (Matthew 5:5)
